I Am So Ecstatic

June 11, 2009

As I said earlier, I was going to be at Best Buy at some point today purchasing the new Mos Def album, The Ecstatic. Well, I went earlier and only found seven albums left, which is a pretty good sign that Mos has been doing good on sales so far. After having The Ecstatic playing in my car non stop for the past four hours, I am quite pleased with the quality of music on the album. Mos Def, you have done it once again, but honestly, I am not too surprised because you are one of the illest emcees.

Mos Def's The Ecstatic

I really do encourage you to get out and to buy this album. Mos Def’s The Ecstatic is an album of pure poetry, lyrics, and flow, and if you like hip hop whatsoever (not the bubble gum, Soulja Boy/Flo Rida kind), then get out and support the Boogie Man. If I were asked to rate the album, on a scaled of 1-10, and 10 being the best, I would easily rate it with a 9.

Also, if you are too lazy to get out and support Mos, then check out Amazon, and download the MP3 version for only $3.99.

As a side note, I bought the Lady GaGa album as well. I am very pleased with the quality of her album as well.

Mos Def Performs Late Nights

June 10, 2009

Below you will see two performances by the Boogie Man over this past week, first on David Letterman and then on Jimmy Fallon. The Almighty Mos Def performs two new singles, Casa Bey and Quiet Dogs, off of his latest LP, The Ecstatic, that came out yesterday. Check out both performances below because Mos Def is truly a one of a kind artist and is easily one of the greatest rappers, ever.

As a side note, I was not able to make it out to Best Buy yesterday to snatch up my copy of The Ecstatic, but rest assured, I will be in line today with it in my broke hand, ha. Also, get out and support his music because he truly is one of the pioneers of lyricism and class of hip hop.

Old Tracks From The Boogie Man

June 8, 2009

In honor of Mos Def’s latest release The Ecstatic, in stores tomorrow, I am releasing to you all a collection of some vintage Def tracks. Quite honestly, when I first ran across this mixtape, I was ecstatic (pun intended). I have been a strong fan of The Boogie Man since he released Black On Both Sides over a decade ago, so it is always good to see some vintage music just now surfacing. And yes, I will be one of the first to cop the new album tomorrow, ha.

Mos Def

Just as a side note, I really encourage you to download this mixtape. The Almighty Mos Def is one of the best rappers to date. He has a lyrical ability and flow that not many other emcees can even get close to. Check it out.

Mos Def x Slick Rick

June 5, 2009

The Almighty Mos Def and Slick Rick together on the same track? It could not be, could it? Yes, you read that right. The Boogie Man meets The Ruler over what will definitely be one of my favorite tracks of the summer. Well, here is another joint to drop from Mos Def’s The Ecstatic album. The more I hear from this album, the more I am impressed. First Casa Bey then History with Talib Kweli and now Auditorium with Slick Rick? What an amazing set up songs. Well, check it out below because this joint is truly an amazing song.

Here’s A History Lesson

June 4, 2009

The long awaited return of Black Star happens courtesy of Mos Def’s The Ecstatic. This is the second post that I have done on Mos Def’s album The Ecstatic and honestly, I love both joints equally. However, something specials happens with me and hip hop heads universally when Mos and Kweli get together. I love both artists individually, but together, Balck Star, they are pretty much untouchable. These two are seriously slept on amongt hip hop listeners, so get familiar. Check out their song below.

Casa Bey Video x Mos Def

May 12, 2009

In a previous post, I debuted Mos Def’s Casa Bey which is coming off of his album The Ecstatic that will be released June 9th. Well, the Almighty Mos Def made a video for his single, Casa Bey, and it is pretty sick. The video is extremely simple, yet so sick. Check it out below if you’d like to hear some good raps and watch some good art. And, just as a side note, I really do put Mos Def in my top five best rappers of all time, easily.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Still haven’t downloaded the track? Shame on you. Just kidding, but I do encourage you to download it now and support the Almighty Mos Def.

Mos Def – “Casa Bey”

Mos Def x Casa Bey

May 9, 2009

By far one of the most slept on hip hop artists ever, Mos Def releases a brand new song, Casa Bey, off of his upcoming album The Ecstatic. Again, in my opinion, Mos is by far one of the greatest hip hop artists ever; he easily breaches into my top seven. Well, I encourage you to download this great track due to its lyrical mastermindedness and phenomenal flow. Mos Def’s album, The Ecstatic, drops June 9th with guests including Talib Kweli and Slick Rick, production from Oh No, Chad Hugo, Mad Lib, Mr. Flash, DJ Preservation, J Dilla and Georgia Anne Muldrow. So, be on the lookout for more songs leaking befor the release date. Mos Def "Casa Bey"

I Have Two Words For Ya

May 9, 2009

And no, I am not quoting D-Generation X, but instead posting on Kanye West’s never released video of Two Words featuring Mos Def and Freeway. This video was just released through the internet and I encourage you to watch this video. It is truly amazing how artistic this video is. I just wish it had gotten released when Ye directed it back in 2004. It is super duper sick, trust me. Plus, if you are not familiar with the song, it will give you a chance to hear great music along with a fantastic video.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Here are some words by Kanye West about the release of the video:

This video never got played because I refused to remove the titles on it. They said people will think a TV show is going off and I said that’s the whole point. Wow… even only 3 videos in to the game…. I refused to compromise my vision.

Mos Def Covers “Say You Will”

April 27, 2009

Okay, so here is yet another cover on Kanye’s 808’s and Heartbreak. This time, Mos Def and his blues, funk, jazz band is covering the hit Say You Will. I listened to this and was sort of impressed, however, no one can touch the original; Kanye always does it better. Take a listen and formulate your own thoughts.
